About Good At Marketing, a digital marketing agency in Boynton Beach

Good At Marketing is a digital marketing agency in Boynton Beach, Florida, founded in July 2017 by Donnie Strompf, who has done SEO since 2008. We sell SEO, answer engine optimization, Google Business Profile management and Google Ads management to local businesses in South Florida and to national brands across the United States.

How Good At Marketing started

In 2008 the housing bubble cut the sales leads at MBMI Metal Buildings, a company my uncle co-founded. I was a salesman for MBMI, and after the economy took a hit, I shifted gears into marketing. It took about a year and we got MBMI to rank for most of their big terms nationally. MBMI was my first national number one, for ‘Steel Buildings’ and ‘Metal Buildings’, and it took 12 to 16 months. It was a lot of learning experiences, and a lot has changed in the industry since.

I worked at SEO and digital marketing companies in South Florida after that, and founded Good At Marketing in July 2017. The full story is on the team page.

How an engagement runs

First we work on the site structure, and we review what competitors have. We want to see what kind of citations they have out there. We dissect the industry and figure out what’s making everything tick. We reverse engineer, we pour our own foundation and build off of it until we have everything needed to succeed for the client.

We work with clients on month to month retainers. We don’t lock anyone in. Each of our services is dedicated to what the client does in their niche and in their geo, which could be national or local. It’s always an effort to figure out what the client is looking for and who their ideal clients are for each service. We focus on SEO, social media, Google Ads, Meta marketing, email marketing, AI development, web development, and anything digital mainly.

After that, each month follows the same pattern for SEO:

  • We fix the technical problems we found and keep a list of what is done and what is next.
  • We write or update pages, and you approve each page before it goes live.
  • We earn links and citations on sites that are relevant to your industry.
  • We send a monthly report with the work completed and the plan for the following month.

The money you pay Google for ads is separate from our fee. We only recommend Google Ads if it is a smart investment for your business.

A client story: XO

XO was a strong relationship, but in the beginning, I didn’t have the relationship with the CEO. I had a relationship outside of that. I was referred to the client. With XO, the CEO and I disagreed on some things at first. I showed the CEO our findings, and they ended up hiring us after we showed them our expertise.

I was a small local business, and XO was a national billion dollar corporation, so getting hired was a challenge, but we managed to get the account. For XO we did a lot of technical SEO. We assessed the market, figured out who we were competing against, did backlink profile analysis, and checked how many pages the competitors had, what content they had and how they internally linked it. We created our own structure for XO based on all the research, and within 3 months we were in position three.

Then COVID happened and they let go of their marketing because they were super busy from organic alone. They fell in ranking, and when they hired us back we pushed them back to position one, which held for over 2 years. They got bought out by another company, and we moved on.

Our XO case study covers our work for the private aviation brand, with dated results.

Who we work with

Most of our clients are local businesses in South Florida, and we also work with national brands across the United States. Our industry pages cover the sectors where we have done the work, including legal marketing, private aviation marketing and healthcare and senior care marketing.

How to pick an agency

When it comes to picking an agency, there are a few red flags. There are no guarantees when it comes to marketing, because there are different people, different times and different ways they engage.

If you want a guaranteed ranking, we are the wrong agency, because Google decides how fast a page ranks. If anyone promises page 1 in 30 days for SEO, they’re lying.

Always pick an agency based on their experience, their track record and their knowledge, and whether they’re willing to go the extra mile and respond quickly. If their website has holes in it, that’s usually a red flag. If you can’t take care of your own website, how are you going to take care of mine?

We meet clients by Google Meet or Zoom.

Who does the work

Our founder leads SEO and strategy. We design and build our WordPress sites in-house. Roni Strompf writes and edits our content and runs our Google Ads accounts. The team page has each person’s background, so you know who you would be working with.

What the team publishes is collected in our marketing guides and research.

We build our own AI products

Building our own AI products, we hit a lot of walls, but we got it done, and now we can keep building pretty much anything.

Clients kept asking us for a CRM, and every time we set one up their tracking broke. Winning for our clients helps us win, so we built our own lead system, gocta.ai, to help clients respond quicker to leads, delegate leads better, filter out spam and only count real leads.

Forms break all the time on websites. Ours never break, they’re measured, and they automatically reply, so you’re first to the lead every single time. If somebody calls and the call is missed, the AI texts them back within a minute, and continues the conversation whether they chat, fill out a form, email or call. It responds from any chat source out of one brain, one database that powers the AI.

Our approach to AI visibility

Each month we check AI visibility with referral traffic in GA4 and with live buyer-style prompts, and we save every answer and URL.

When someone asks ChatGPT who to call, the business it names is the one that gets searched next. We do AI visibility alongside SEO, never instead of it.
