Local SEO services

Local SEO gets a business into the map pack and other Google results for nearby searches. Here in Boynton Beach, Florida, it is the Google Business Profile / Local SEO line on the pricing page, $450 to $650 a month. A business that also wants site-wide SEO adds SEO management at $1,000 to $1,600 a month.

This page covers the local line only. Site-wide SEO is on our SEO services page, and the SEO cost guide shows how that fee is built.

Who is local SEO for?

The work changes with where customers meet the business.

  • A business customers walk into. A salon, gym, restaurant or clinic shows its address on Google and competes with every similar business nearby. The work is keeping one profile accurate and making the website say the same things the profile says.
  • A business that travels to customers. A plumber, cleaner or installer works at the customer’s property. Google calls this a service-area business and allows one profile for the whole area served (Business Profile Help, service areas, read October 19, 2026). The work centers on the service-area list, the category, and pages that show jobs done in the places listed. The home services marketing page has the wider picture for these trades.
  • A practice or company with several people or places. Google’s guidelines say not to create more than one page for each location, and they allow separate pages for individual practitioners and for departments inside some institutions (Business Profile Help, guidelines, read October 19, 2026). The first job is deciding which profiles should exist, because Google says more than one profile per business can cause problems with how information displays on Google Maps and Search.

The other parts of SEO have their own pages: technical SEO services, SEO content services and link earning services.

What does local SEO involve?

The work breaks into six tasks, and a Google help page describes each one.

  1. Verify the profile. Google says verification tells it you are authorized to represent the business, so the profile is more likely to show up in search results (Business Profile Help, local ranking tips, read October 19, 2026). Performance data and review replies are also limited to verified profiles.
  2. Match the profile to the business as people know it. The guidelines say to represent the business as it is consistently recognized on signage and stationery. They also say to use as few categories as possible, keep each one specific but representative of the main business, never use a category solely as a keyword, and keep only one profile per business. The business description field has its own limits: no links of any type, and no focus on promotions, prices or sales.
  3. Set the address or the service area. A business that serves customers at its address shows the address. A business that does not hides the address and fills in the service-area list instead, which holds up to 20 entries (Business Profile Help, service areas). Our guide Google Business Profile for a Service-Area Business: Hide Your Address and Set Service Areas goes further.
  4. Handle reviews. Business Profile Help describes replying to reviews and sharing a review request link or QR code. It says Google reviews each reply before it posts, and that a customer who reviews a service business may be asked to pick the specific service provided (Business Profile Help, manage customer reviews, read October 19, 2026). Our guide How to Get More Google Reviews Without Breaking Google’s Rules covers asking.
  5. Make the website agree with the profile. Google’s LocalBusiness structured data page says to define each local business location as a LocalBusiness type and to use the most specific sub-type possible (Google Search Central, LocalBusiness structured data, last updated September 8, 2026). The name, address or service area, and services on the site should match the profile.
  6. Read the performance data. The Performance report in Business Profile shows how people found the profile and what they did next, covered below.

The pricing page lists the same $450 to $650 range under the name Google Business Profile management, and our Google Business Profile management page describes that service.

How does Google rank local results, and what changes for a service-area business?

According to Google’s ranking tips for Business Profiles, local results come down to relevance, distance and prominence. Together they pick the best match for a search (Business Profile Help, local ranking tips, read October 19, 2026).

  • Relevance asks whether the profile’s information fits the search. A fuller, more detailed profile gives Google more to match.
  • Distance is the gap between the searcher and each candidate business. When the searcher shares no location, Google falls back on what it knows about where that person is.
  • Prominence is about how much recognition the business has. Google ties it to signals such as links from other websites and the number of reviews.

A service-area business changes the distance question. Google’s service area page says a service area helps people find the profile, and that a radius around the business can no longer be set. The page also wants the whole area to be reachable in roughly two hours by car from the business’s base, and it caps the list at 20 areas (Business Profile Help, service areas, read October 19, 2026).

A business that never meets customers at its address is told to take the address off the profile. A hybrid business, one that hosts customers and also travels to them, can show its address and a service area together. Google ties storefront eligibility to permanent on-site signage, so a hybrid business without it should list itself as a service-area business instead.

Google’s page does not say that adding a city to the list improves a ranking there. In our view, the list describes where the business works and does not promise where it will appear.

A plumber based in Boynton Beach who lists 20 cities has told Google where the trucks go. Pages that show finished jobs, reviews from customers in those cities and links from local sites are evidence that the business works there. That evidence supports the case for ranking there and guarantees no position.

What should you measure?

Performance data is available only for verified profiles, and only the metrics that apply to a business appear. Business Profile Help describes these metrics in the Performance report (Business Profile Help on performance and insights, read October 19, 2026):

  • Views: how many people viewed the profile on Search and Maps.
  • Searches: the terms people used to find the business, updated at the start of each month.
  • Directions: how many people asked for directions.
  • Calls: clicks on the call button, which needs a phone number on the profile.
  • Website clicks: clicks on the website link.
  • Messages and Bookings: conversations through messages, and bookings made through a booking provider.

We read Directions and Calls as stronger intent than Views alone, because a person who asks for directions is heading to the business.

Set the Calls and Directions counts against the calls and visits you can count yourself, using the same dates for both.

On October 15, 2026, Komba Jiu Jitsu was the first recommendation on ChatGPT and Perplexity for a beginner looking for a jiu jitsu academy near Sunrise or Plantation, and second on Gemini for the best gym in Sunrise. That is an AI-answer result and says nothing about the map pack. When someone asks ChatGPT who to call, the business it names is the one that gets searched next. FAQ

How much does local SEO cost?

Local SEO is the Google Business Profile / Local SEO line on the pricing page, $450 to $650 a month. A business that also wants site-wide SEO adds SEO management at $1,000 to $1,600 a month. Both ranges are from the pricing page, reviewed October 2026.

Can I add keywords to my business name on Google?

Google’s guidelines, read October 19, 2026, say the name should be the one used consistently on the storefront and the website. They add that unnecessary information in the name is not permitted and could lead to a suspended profile. Categories describe what the business is, and the description field is where services and products offered go.

Does a P.O. box or virtual office work as an address?

No. Google’s guidelines, read October 19, 2026, say P.O. boxes and mailboxes at remote locations are not acceptable, and a rented mailing address where the business does not operate is not eligible for a profile. A shared co-working space can qualify, but only if it has clear signage, receives customers on site and has staff present during business hours.

Why is the Views number lower than the notification emails?

Google’s performance help, read October 19, 2026, says the Views metric counts unique visitors, counts a person once a day, and counts only views of the Business Profile. It can therefore come out lower than the view counts shown on the profile and in email notifications.

Can I pay Google for a better local ranking?

No. Google’s local ranking help, read October 19, 2026, says a better local ranking cannot be requested or bought. Its service area page does point service-area businesses to Local Services Ads, which is advertising and a separate product from the unpaid local results.

How long does a service-area change take to show?

Google’s service area help, read October 19, 2026, says approved service area edits may take up to 48 hours to show on the profile. Because a radius cannot be set, the list has to name specific areas instead, with a cap of 20.
