SEO for home services gets a contractor’s website to appear when homeowners search for a trade in the cities it serves. Based in Boynton Beach, Florida, Good At Marketing charges $1,000 to $1,600 a month for it, and up to about $3,500 in competitive markets (pricing). This page covers site pages, Florida’s contractor number rule and measurement.

What is different about SEO for a roofer, plumber or landscaper?
A homeowner searches for a trade and a place, then calls the first business that looks local and reachable. The website has one job in that moment: confirm the service, the area and a way to call.
Two other listings sit above the organic results for many of these searches: Local Services Ads and the map pack. Our home services marketing page covers them, along with hurricane-season planning. This page is about the website those searches land on.
For the paid listing, see Local Services Ads for home services.
Our pricing page places home services at the upper end of the SEO range. For the factors behind a quote, see the SEO cost guide, and for the program itself our SEO services page.
Which pages should a contractor’s website have?
Build a page when it answers a search a buyer makes, and skip it when it would repeat another page. This table is our starting guide for a contractor, and your trade can change it.
| Page | Search it answers | Build it when |
|---|---|---|
| Service page | Water heater replacement | You sell the job on its own |
| City page | Roofer in a named city | You work there and can show it |
| Project page | Kitchen remodel with photos | You have finished jobs to show |
| Seasonal page | AC tune-up | Demand returns every year |
| Cost page | What a new roof costs | Buyers ask before they call |
Give each page its own address in plain words. Google’s SEO Starter Guide says to use descriptive URLs, because parts of a URL can appear in results as breadcrumbs and help a user judge the result (Google Search Central, SEO Starter Guide, read October 19, 2026). An address that names the job and the city says more than a string of numbers.
Tell Google what kind of business the site belongs to as well. Google’s LocalBusiness structured data page says to use the most specific LocalBusiness sub-type possible (Google Search Central, LocalBusiness structured data, read October 19, 2026). A plumber’s markup should name the closest plumbing type available.
What does a homeowner need to see on a service page?
Open your own service page on a phone and look for five things without scrolling far: the service by name, the area you cover, a phone number that dials when tapped, a license number and a photo of finished work. A visitor who cannot find one of them may go back to the results.
Write for the question behind the search. Someone searching for a water heater replacement wants to know what the job includes, what could change the price and what happens next. In our view, a page that answers those three questions in plain sentences serves the visitor better than a page of keywords, and it gives a sales call something to start from.
In our view, a project page with the city, the job type and a short description of what was done is worth more than a gallery of unlabeled images. Google’s image guidance adds that images are often the largest contributor to page size, which can make pages slow and expensive to load, so resize job photos before they go on the site (Google Search Central, image SEO best practices, read October 19, 2026).
How many city pages does a contractor need?
You do not need a separate page for every city you serve. Google’s spam policies treat doorway abuse as building pages that target a group of similar searches and then lead visitors to a destination that is less useful than the page they wanted (Google Search Central, spam policies, last updated August 28, 2026, read October 19, 2026).
In our view, a city page that swaps the city name into the same paragraphs risks falling under that policy, and a city page that holds something true only for that city is a different thing. Jobs you finished there, the permit office you deal with and the neighborhoods you serve from your yard all qualify. If you cannot write three sentences like that, the city does not need its own page yet.
Pages are the website half of service-area work. The Business Profile half, including how to list areas without a storefront, is in our service-area business guide.
What does Florida’s contractor number rule say about advertising?
Section 489.119(5)(b) of the 2026 Florida Statutes says the registration or certification number of each contractor shall appear in each offer of services, business proposal, bid, contract, or advertisement, regardless of medium, as defined by board rule, used by that contractor or business organization in the practice of contracting (Florida Senate, 2026 Florida Statutes, section 489.119, read October 19, 2026).
Confirm what applies to your website with the Construction Industry Licensing Board.
When should seasonal pages go live?
Put the publish date ahead of the season. Google’s advice on annual sales pages says to create the page well before the event so Googlebot has time to find and index it, to check that Google is not blocked from crawling it, and to add a link on the home page (Google Search Central Blog, October 26, 2020). That advice was written for retail, and we read it as applying to a furnace tune-up page in the same way.
Pick the two or three seasons that matter most to your revenue, such as the weeks before cooling season, and put each page’s publish date in your own calendar. A page published in the week of a heat wave may not be indexed in time.
What should a contractor measure from SEO?
Search Console supplies the queries your site appeared for, its clicks and its impressions. Your own books supply the rest: calls that came from organic search, the jobs booked from them and the profit on each job. Search Console Help says the Performance report shows which pages have the highest and lowest click-through rate (Search Console Help, read October 19, 2026). In our view, the pages at the low end are the first candidates for a rewrite.
Compare impressions and clicks with tracked calls, and calls with booked jobs. Many impressions with few calls point to the page, while calls that do not become jobs point to the phone or the sales step. Have the office write down where each new customer says they found you during the first call, then mark the job won or lost later. Without that log, an SEO report ends at traffic.
What should a contractor ask an SEO company before signing?
Ask for the list of pages the plan will add, by name, and for the cities each one covers. Ask who writes the text and whether your crew’s job photos go on it. Ask how calls from organic search will be counted, and what the report shows beside the invoice.
Ask what happens to the pages and accounts if you leave, and who holds the logins. Treat any promise of a ranking or a date as a reason to stop the conversation. The how to choose an SEO company guide covers red flags to watch for.
Who is SEO for in home services?
Three kinds of company use it differently.
- A one-city trade with a small crew. The goal is to be the obvious local choice for a handful of jobs, so one strong page per service and one page about the area usually beats twenty thin ones. Start with the services that carry your margin.
- A company in several cities or trades. Separate pages for each service and city help visitors find the work that applies to them.
- A newer company with few reviews. Such a company has fewer finished jobs to show. Project pages with photos and a steady flow of Google reviews give it something to point to while the pages settle in, and no page can promise a position.

FAQ
What does SEO cost for a roofing, HVAC or landscaping company?
Our SEO fee is $1,000 to $1,600 a month, up to about $3,500 in competitive markets, and our pricing page puts home services at the upper end. The number depends on how many trades and cities you cover and how crowded your market is. Ad spend is a separate bill.
Can a contractor put its own Google reviews on its site with star markup?
Not with the expectation of star ratings in results. Google’s review snippet guidelines, read October 19, 2026, say pages using LocalBusiness or Organization markup are ineligible for the star feature if the business being reviewed controls the reviews, including through an embedded widget. Our schema markup guide covers what to add instead.
How should project photos be named and described?
Google’s image SEO guidance, read October 19, 2026, recommends short, descriptive file names, so a photo named for the job and city beats IMG00023.JPG. It calls alt text the most important attribute and warns against keyword stuffing. It also says Google does not index CSS images, so use standard image elements.
How can a contractor see when demand for a service picks up?
Search Console Help, read October 19, 2026, says the performance report’s date filter changes the time period. Choose the weeks around last year’s busy season, if the property has data for them, and compare impressions for the seasonal page’s queries. In our view, a page that earned impressions then is worth refreshing before the season returns.
What does Search Console show that a phone log does not?
Search Console Help, read October 19, 2026, says the performance report shows the queries that bring traffic, plus clicks, impressions, click-through rate and average position by page. A phone log shows who called. The report can reveal a page that appears often and is clicked rarely, which a call list never will.
How should a company that sells two trades organize its site?
Give each trade its own folder, such as plumbing and HVAC sections. Google’s SEO Starter Guide, read October 19, 2026, says that for sites with more than a few thousand URLs, directories grouping similar topics can help Google learn how often pages change. In our view a contractor site is far smaller, so the gain is clarity for visitors.
